Aside from a couple horrid design decisions (text over dark design elements making some pages unreadable) and the cartoonish artwork (and even that grows on you, IMHO), I really like the game. I only got to play it once, but I had a lot of fun and would gladly do it again, given the opportunity.Christopher Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17368794259249607299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6137072316042205607.post-30512256928807720652009-04-27T09:19:00.000-04:002009-04-27T09:19:00.000-04:00"It just wouldn't do to read a horror rulebook on ..."It just wouldn't do to read a horror rulebook on a bright sunny day with cute bunnies hopping around the place, would it?"

Well, it would be surreal at the very least. :DChristopher Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17368794259249607299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6137072316042205607.post-46562415785776932872009-04-27T09:18:00.000-04:002009-04-27T09:18:00.000-04:00@Propnomicon: You know, whenever I was in the plac...@Propnomicon: You know, whenever I was in the place, the other guys that were there (invariably playing games, if memory serves) acted like I was invisible. Even when I purchased something, I never got more than a couple of words from any of them. I wanted Call of Cthulhu but I could only afford Chill. I never regreted it. I ran a lot of one-off Against the Unknown Detective style adventures set in the 1930's near Boston. Great fun and great atmosphere. I actually liked the Mayfair edition as well (which I understand is rare for Chill fans).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6137072316042205607.post-83184568534025464502009-04-25T17:02:00.000-04:002009-04-25T17:02:00.000-04:00I whiled away many a Saturday night playing "...I whiled away many a Saturday night playing "Car Wars" and "Star Fleet Battles" in the basement of A & J.

Good times.Propnomiconhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02073463298965255652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6137072316042205607.post-58942506427326972762009-04-24T19:18:00.000-04:002009-04-24T19:18:00.000-04:00What a great story. It just wouldn't do to read a horror rulebook on a bright sunny day with cute bunnies hopping around the place, would it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6137072316042205607.post-68046223954508341702009-04-24T13:39:00.000-04:002009-04-24T13:39:00.000-04:00"I still have that book, and the blood stain is st..."I still have that book, and the blood stain is still clearly visible."

That is just perfect! I was definitely simultaneously terrified and fascinated by horror movies as a kid. This was no doubt helped considerably by the fact that my mom absolutely forbade me from watching R-rated films, which only lent the thing an air of forbidden fruit.

My first horror-related RPG purchase was GURPS Horror. Although this wasn't the first time I cracked the book, within a couple months I had an incident occur where I was reading the chapter on "Things Man Was Not Meant to Know" (aka Lovecraftian horrors) and, without realizing it, my nose spontaneously started bleeding. My first clue was when a giant dollop of blood fell onto the page. I still have that book, and the blood stain is still clearly visible.David Larkinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04133630988557116729noreply@blogger.com
